Port Chester Man Accused of Brandishing Machete

The suspect is accused of carrying the weapon in central Greenwich and having a second knife in his possession.

A Port Chester man seen brandishing a machete as he walked in downtown Greenwich is facing weapons and drug possession charges, according to Greenwich Police.

The 35-year-old suspect was first spotted with the weapon that police said was 24 inches long, in the area of 410 Greenwich Ave. shortly after 4 p.m. Dec. 17. Witnesses told police the man had placed the machete in a gray shopping bag and was walking towards the Greenwich train station, according to a police report.

Police couldn’t locate the man. But then police received a call from someone at the McDonald’s restaurant at 268 W. Putnam Ave., who reported a man inside the restaurant was causing a disturbance, asking patrons for money and that the man left a machete inside a restroom, according to the police report.

Inside the restroom, police found the machete, a plastic bag containing a white powdery susbstance and a pay stub with suspect’s name on it, according to the report. The suspect was found inside the restaurant and officers said he had a second knife, that was 11 inches long in his possession.

Eric D. Eddings, of South Regent Street in Port Chester, was arrested on carrying a danger weapon, possession of narcotics and second-degree breach of peace charges. He was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Dec. 28 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Eddings has previous convictions for harassment and breach of peace, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website.
