The couple is charged with animal cruelty, the SPCA says.

Two people were arrested after 31 cats were found living in "deplorable conditions" inside their Coram home, the Suffolk County SPCA said Saturday.

Frank Tramuta 68, and Marie Rastelli, 59, were each face misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. The arrests come after the SPCA received reports about cats living in poor conditions both inside a debris filled home and on the surrounding property.

The 31 cats were removed from the home and transported to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter for further evaluation with the help of some animal rescue groups. The cats ranged in age from kittens to adults.
