Michael Micheline and college students everywhere have something in common: They both love cornhole.

And after realizing the popular lawn game, in which players throw beanbags at a wooden board with a hole in it, was missing from Long Island, he decided to act.

Micheline opened Cornhole of America in Port Jefferson last month at 600 North Bicycle Path.

"Cornhole has been around for a long time being played in the Midwest and the South," Micheline said. "It always seemed to be a game that brought people together to have fun and a game really anyone could play. We discovered it many years ago through camping trips and introduced it to our friends back home. It has finally made its way North and thought this would be a great time to create a facility where people can play it year round. In addition to running tournaments and open play, we also offer leagues, like bowling."

Guests can play for $10 an hour and buy additional hours for $5. In addition, the location offers leagues with cash prizes and private rooms for birthdays, corporate events and more.

"This gives people the opportunity to have a weekly social outing playing a fun game," he said. "We have a pro shop where we sell custom boards, bags, board lights and apparel."

Guests can buy beer and wine from the snack bar for $3, Micheline said.

"Our future plans are to grow opening additional facilities all over," he said.
