Do You Get Any Cell Phone Reception?

Some North Shore residents say that they can't get a signal.

Despite claims by most cell phone companies that coverage on Long Island is pervasive, Newsday recently profiled some area residents who get better service in Hawaii than at home on Long Island.

Everyone wants good cell phone service, but few want cell phone towers, yet the two go hand in hand. With next generation service (4G), people are getting used to using their smart phones in lieu of their laptops to surf the web, download music and even share photos.

"I have to drive up a hill to get service," the paper reported Mount Sinai resident Lynn Jordan as saying. "Boy, is it frustrating."

Many people living along the North Shore in Port Jefferson and Miller Place also experience the same dead zones in their own homes. Service sometimes depends on which room in your house you’re in or stepping outdoors improves signal strength.
