Hummus Mediterranean To Open Location In Selden

When brothers Tony, Tuncay and Erhan underwent a lifestyle change a few years ago, they decided to open Hummus Mediterranean in Holbrook.

Now, the brothers from Turkey, and Ethan's wife, Liana are a couple days away from opening a second location in Selden.

"They were all born and raised in Turkey and made their way here about 18 years ago," Liana said. "This is where the background of Mediterranean food comes into play. Hummus has a large variety of Turkish, Greek, and Lebonise kick to your taste buds."

Liana said the the Holbrook location filled a void for Long Islanders who were often on the move, but still craved a healthy meal.

"Noticing that everyone on Long Island is always in a rush and our diets aren’t too good, we offer fast food yet fresh and healthy so that people could not only get their food quickly but feel good about eating it," Liana said. "Opening the doors a few years ago we had no idea we would be as successful as we have been and we thank god for that. "

The new location, which will open on Monday, will be at 680 Middle Country Rd in Selden.

Liana said the restaurant's signature dish is the chicken gyro - and they usually sell out around 1 to 2p.m. everyday after opening at 11 a.m.

" The chicken gyro is made up of a lot of spices and is rotated on a gyro machine to bring out the best taste," she said.

Hummus also has a wide variety of food for "anyone's tasting," including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

"We also offer meal preparation that is portioned out for people who would like to either lose weight, maintain, gain weight, or just have a hectic schedule they cannot cook at home," she said. "We decided to open another location in Selden and we think that it would be unique because there is nothing around there that has the same mentality that we have. Fresh, healthy food fast. Our motto has always been don’t serve food you wouldn’t want to feed your family."
