One year ago, strangers were brought together, standing hand-in-hand to help one another survive one of the deadliest hurricanes to hit Long Island, Hurricane Sandy.

Parents, students and teachers from Mt. Sinai School District made a trek out west last week to the most devastated parts of Long Island to help out people who are still recovering from Sandy.

Former Port Jefferson Resident Leads Sandy Relief Effort From Michigan
Tricia Hexter's Michigan home has turned into a Hurricane Sandy donation center, taken over by boxes and bags of coats, shoes, clothes, books, toys, toiletries and more with a whole system for loading it up, moving it out, and getting help where it's needed here on the East Coast.
