North Babylon School District Appoints New Science Director

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A new director of science will soon join the North Babylon School District.

Educator Jill Johanson was recently appointed as the new K-12 director of science, effective Sept. 26, the district said.

Johanson comes to North Babylon from Syosset Public Schools, where she worked as the K-12 coordinator of science and technology since September 2022. She also served as the K-12 science director at Commack Public Schools from October 2020 to September 2022. Since 2000, she has worked in various capacities in the educational field including science teacher and chairperson in other Long Island school districts.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry and biology from Bucknell University. Additionally, she has a Master of Arts degree in secondary school science education from Columbia University’s Teachers College.

Johnson holds certifications in school building leader and school district leader from the College of Saint Rose.
