Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance Paramedic Michael Presta was given a New York State Liberty Award.

State Sen. Ken LaValle, R-Port Jefferson, awarded Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance Paramedic Michael Presta recently for saving the life of a child from a car accident over a year ago.

Presta was on his way home from work at the ambulance company in December of 2011 when he came upon a multi-vehicle accident at Pine Road and County Road 83 in Coram.

According to LaValle's office, Presta noticed a child slumped over the car's back seat, in cardiac arrest. He removed the child from the car and performed CPR. The child regained its pulse, was transported to Stony Brook Hospital and after an extensive rehabilitation, fully recovered.
