PHOTOS: Bike Ride For Injured Vets Make Pit Stop in Port Jefferson Station

Bikers started in Massachusetts on Monday and will ride through New York City on Friday.

The "minutemen" came to Port Jefferson Station, making a pit stop on a 330-mile bike ride from Massachusetts to New York City. The ride is called the "2012 United Healthcare Ride 2 Recovery Minuteman Challenge" and makes its way through New England to raise money and awareness for injured war veterans.

State Senator Ken LaValle and State Assemblyman Steve Englebright met with the riders at the Elks Lodge on Thursday as they stopped for lunch and a well-deserved break. About 200 injured veterans started the trek on Monday from Quincy, Mass.

“Veterans, troops and supporters rode hand cycles, recumbent, tandems and traditional road bikes from Orient Point,” said LaValle’s office in a statement. “‘Ride 2 Recovery’ provides cycling rehabilitation programs for injured veterans.”
