PHOTOS: Grade School Choir Helps Fire Department Honor 9/11 Victims
Port Jefferson' fifth-grade choir sang "God Bless America" to open the department's 9/11 service.
On Tuesday the held its annual memorial service to remember those lost on 9/11.
According to a statement released by the Port Jefferson School District, members of the fifth-grade class sang “God Bless America” at the start of the service. They were led by music instructor Jessica Pastor.
"Never forget those firefighters and police officers that were at 9/11, and be thankful every day of your lives for what they did," said former Port Jefferson Fire Department Chief Desmond O’Sullivan during the ceremony.

Of the elementary students at the memorial service he called them "the bright future of our world."
Opening and closing prayers were led by Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church Pastor Rev. Patrick M. Riegger. The names of local first responders lost in the attacks were read, followed by a ringing of the bell for each.
