Pittsburgh Steelers Claim Long Islander Elijah Riley: Report

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Former Newfield High School star Elijah Riley has been picked up on waivers by the Pittsburgh Steelers after being released by the Jets on Tuesday, according to NFL reporter Rich Cimini.

Riley, a Port Jefferson native, was a safety for the Jets in seven out of the last eight games last season, however, he had fallen on the team's depth chart when Jordan Whitehead was signed and they re-signed LaMarcus Joyner, Newsday reported.

Riley, who was signed off the Eagles’ practice squad last year as a starter, had 45 tackles and a sack in his seven of his starts with the Jets and he missed one game due to a concussion, the outlet reported. On Dec. 19., he was injured during a game against the Dolphins and needed his neck immobilized, according to the outlet.
