Port Jefferson Cross-Country Team Wins Division IV Championship
The team edged out Bayport-Blue Point by one point at the divisional meet at Sunken Meadow State Park.

The Port Jefferson varsity boys cross-country team came away victorious at the divisional meet at Sunken Meadow State Park. The team edged out Bayport-Blue Point by one point to secure the Division IV championship. Each member of the Royals squad finished within the top 20 runners in Division IV, led by Brendan Capodanno and Gray Joyner.

“The boys cross-country program has been one of the top-performing teams throughout Suffolk County over the last five years,” Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Nursing Adam Sherrard said. “The team continually elevates their performance in big moments.”
The boys now set their sights on the county title at the Suffolk County championship and State Qualifier meet on Nov. 5. The boys are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., followed by the girls county championship at 3:30 p.m. at Sunken Meadow State Park.

The school district congratulates Brendan Capodanno, Teppei Fukuto, Gray Joyner, Rumaan Khan, Evan Monaghan, Gavin Onghai, Andrew Schretzmayer, Ryan Sommerstad, Carman Stanton and Colin Veit.
