- New COVID-19 testing facilities opened across LI this week to attend the demand at urgent care. Northwell Health will operate drive-thru testing sites at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn and Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. These sites will offer PCR tests and are by appointment only. Long Island has the highest daily COVID-19 infection rate in New York. (News 12)
- Theatre Three in Port Jefferson is hosting a comedy night on News Year's Eve. New Year’s Laughin’ Eve lineup will include Eric Haft, Joe DeVito and a surprise guest comedian. Hosted by Paul Anthony. The doors will open at 6 p.m. at Theatre Three, 412 Main St., Port Jefferson and again at 8 p.m. Tickets for the early bird show are $50, tickets to the prime time show are $65. - Gershow Recycling donated a wrecked car in support of the Town of Huntington’s Anti-Drunk and Distracted Driving Campaign. Presented by Mark Cuthbertson, Councilman, Town of Huntington and Town Board, the program reminds the community of the dangers of drunk or distracted driving during the holidays. Mr. Gershowitz thanked the Town and MADD for their awareness efforts and said Gershow takes in thousands of vehicles that were involved in serious accidents each year, some of which were the result of drunk driving. - Port Jefferson Middle School students learned about plant and animal cell using their own drawings. They took the opportunity to draw their work on the new dry erase tables in the classroom. They were tasked to include all of the organelles for the chosen cell and label them. Teacher Class, Mrs. Landetta, said the drawings highlighted their creativity and ability to apply what was learned. (Port Jefferson Scholl District)
- Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police had a press conference to remind residents to keep vehicles locked after a wave of car thefts across Long Island. Since Dec. 19, Suffolk police responded to eight incidents which the cars were unlocked or in with the key fob inside. (Long Island News)
