Wearing Chefology 101 aprons, Earl L. Vandermeulen High School students participated in a food lab with head high school chef Robin Hoolahan and chef Tony Distefano, director of Strategic Operations at Whitsons Culinary Group.

Together, they learned the art of making traditional sushi rolls filled with rice, nori (dried seaweed) and favorite ingredients – carrots, cucumbers, avocado and crabsticks. The young chefs practiced kitchen safety, sanitation and personal hygiene procedures, rolling to perfection during the hands-on learning opportunity.

“Students loved this activity,” Principal John Ruggero said. “It was a great opportunity for teamwork, as well as lessons in time management and career exploration while having fun.”
