BREAKING: Officials say it happened Monday morning.
PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A man was hurt and had to be rescued when he fell down a deep hole in Port Washington. A Nassau County technical rescue team was called to a construction site around 9 a.m. Monday on Longwood Road in Sands Point, firefighters said. There, they pulled the man out of the 12-foot hole amid an unstable mound of dirt along the ditch, officials said.
The rescue lasted just under an hour. A police helicopter was called to the scene and flew the man to a hospital with a broken hip, among other injuries, Brian Waterson, assistant chief with the Port Washington Fire Department, told Patch on Monday. No emergency responders were hurt.
Firefighters from Manhasset, Bethpage, Massapequa and Freeport also helped work the scene.
