Cops: Father, Son Arrested in Manorhaven Assault Case

The two punched police officers and an ambulance worker, authorities said.

A Manorhaven father and son both face multiple assault charges, after police say the pair punched officers and an ambulance worker Sunday evening, authorities said.

Nassau Police said officers responded to a report of an assault at 6:29 p.m. at a Marwood Road South home. During the investigation, Edgar Monroy, 59 returned to the home.

When he was advised by the officers that he was under arrest, Monroy began to swing his arms at the officers, police said.  He then charged towards one officer, knocking him to the ground and punching him, while the second officer attempted to secure Monroy in handcuffs, police said.

After placing Edgar Monroy was in custody, his son Joel Monroy, 23, began to fight with the officers as well as a Nassau County Ambulance AMT who was at the scene, police said. He punched all three numerous times before eventually being placed under arrest, police said.

Both officers and the AMT were treated at a local hospital for injuries to their arms, neck and back, which occurred as a result of both attacks, police said

Edgar Monroy is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Joel Monroy is charged with three counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.

They were scheduled for arraignment on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
