PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Incumbent state Senate District 7 Sen. Anna Kaplan reacted to her loss to Jack Martins on Wednesday. The Great Neck Democrat served as state senator since 2019, and alluded to a "next chapter" of service, but didn't specify future plans.

Republican Martins flipped the district red, part of a wave of wins for Nassau Republicans.

"I want to start by saying thank you. When I ran for State Senate four years ago, I never could have imagined the incredible outpouring of community support we would receive. I want to thank our hardworking team, our volunteers, and every New Yorker who went to the polls and made their voices heard," she said in a statement.

"I am so grateful to every single supporter for showing up on behalf of our campaign and for believing in the movement we created together for the betterment of Long Island. It has been the honor of a lifetime representing my neighbors in the New York State Senate. Together, we made history, protecting the rights of women, passing landmark legislation protecting New Yorkers from the scourge of gun violence, and fighting back against the rising tide of hate."

Kaplan served as chair of the Committee on Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business.

She received 55,963 votes to Martins' 64,009.

"Unfortunately, the election results last night showed us coming short of what we needed to win. While our campaign has ended, my service to, and love for, our community has not. I will always fight for you and am committed to continuing that spirit of service in my next chapter."
