LI Weather: Rainy Christmas Eve, Christmas In Forecast

Forget about a white Christmas — rain showers are likely as Santa's sleigh flies over Long Island, forecasters say.

LONG ISLAND — Dreaming of a white Christmas, Long Islanders? Don't hold your breath 'cus it looks like rain is in the holiday forecast.

You'll likely see some wet weather late on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service.

A slight chance of snow is possible Thursday night starting at 10 p.m., but will mix with rain Friday after 4 a.m., the forecast states. Friday will then be sunny and dry until late into Christmas Eve at 1 a.m.

"Chance of precipitation is 60%," the forecast states. "New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible."

Christmas Day — which is Saturday — carries a 40 percent chance of rain, the forecast states.

NASSAU COUNTY

Thursday Night

  • A chance of snow after 10 p.m., mixing with rain after 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Friday

  • A chance of rain and snow before 10 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Friday Night

  • Rain likely, mainly after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 39. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Christmas Day

  • A 40 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. South wind around 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Saturday Night

  • A 50 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 45.

  • Rain and snow likely before 10 a.m., then a slight chance of snow between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 43. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
