'Lights Out!': Port Washington Neighbors Going Dark For Earth Day
A local environmental organization invites residents to turn off the lights Wednesday and connect with the stars or enjoy a candle.
PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Port Washington residents are encouraged to turn off the lights for 15 minutes and stargaze Wednesday to celebrate Earth Day.
Residents Forwards, a local environmental organization, wants all neighbors to go dark from 8:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. and "connect with the stars in the sky or enjoy the glow of a candle."
"In this very challenging COVID-19 time, it can be hard to process anything else," the organization wrote in an event flyer. "One glimmer of hope on the climate front is carbon pollution decreasing because we are burning less fossil fuels."
