North Hempstead Plans Drive-In Memorial Day Ceremony, Fireworks
The fireworks display, which will be produced by Santore, kicks off at 9 p.m. on May 29 at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington.
PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A drive-in Memorial Day commemoration and fireworks ceremony will be held at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington on May 29 at 9 p.m.
The fireworks, which will be produced by Santore, are set to begin promptly at 9 p.m., with the display synced to music that will be broadcast over dashboard radio. The event, which is open to town residents only, will not require pre-registration, as cars will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis under social distancing capacity guidelines.
There will be a $10 parking fee to enter the grounds, which opens to the public at 5:30 p.m.

Town officials will be enforcing social distancing guidelines at all times. All attendees are required to remain in their cars unless using the restrooms, and at that time, they must wear a mask.
Supervisor Judi Bosworth said town officials are “excited to continue” the tradition for the community.

“We look forward to everyone coming together on Memorial Day Weekend as we kickoff the unofficial start of summer and also reflect on the supreme sacrifices made by the brave men and women in the armed forces,” she said.
Town officials are encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable/canned foods to the events as part of the town’s donation drive.
