Pool Hours Extended In North Hempstead Due To Heat Wave

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — To help residents beat the summer heat, the Town of North Hempstead is extending its pool hours to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Click here for a list of Town-operated swimming pools.

During periods of extreme heat, local officials recommend:

• Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day
• Wearing clothes that are light-colored, lightweight, loose, and absorbent (cotton is a good choice)
• Eating fruits and vegetables to replace nutrients
• Wearing a wide-brimmed hat when going outdoors
• Taking cool baths and showers once or twice a day
• Limiting caffeine and alcoholic drinks
• Checking the daily heat index in the newspaper to alert you to the risk of heat-related illness
