Port Washington Teen Honored by Winthrop Hospital

A Port Washington teen was recently recognized by Winthrop-University Hospital for fundraising efforts to help find a cure for diabetes.

Ashley Randall received the Youth Achievement Award at Winthrop’s Pediatric Diabetes Program’s fifth annual Bite of Hope Dinner at the Inn at New Hyde Park.

The event, which raised $52,000 also honored the achievements of Jeffrey and Carol Rosenking of Westbury.

The program offers a multifaceted approach to treating young patients with diabetes. Established in 2002, the program not only provides treatment but also education and care for children, adolescents and young adults with diabetes throughout the tri-state region.

Hospital officials say proceeds from the Bite of Hope event will be directly used for the psychosocial services provided by Winthrop’s Pediatric Diabetes Program. Since these services are offered free to patients and are not reimbursed by insurance, the program relies on philanthropic contributions.

The evening was emceed by CBS News’ Sophia Hall with entertainment provided by Maximilian Sisalli. Winthrop Pediatric Diabetes Program Director Jean Corrigan, RN, MA, CDE, applauded Jeffrey and Carol Rosenking and their daughter, Taylor, for enriching Winthrop’s Pediatric Diabetes Program with their generosity and personal commitment to its comprehensive education and medical care.

At the event, Joseph Lannig introduced Randall of Port Washington, and praised her for her tireless efforts to raising funds for the cure.

Members of Winthrop’s Pediatric Diabetes Team expressed gratitude for the community’s continued support of their program. Under the program, children are encouraged to embrace a positive philosophy as they learn to successfully manage this chronic illness.
