Schreiber Student Competes In Renowned Summer Science Program
She was selected from over 400 applicants worldwide to be part of comprehensive research project in Biochemistry.

A Paul D. Schreiber High School student was among 24 gifted science students chosen for the Summer Science Program at Purdue University.
Caroline Katz, of Sands Point, was selected from over 400 applicants worldwide to be part of a team that completed a comprehensive research project in Biochemistry that normal high schoolers don’t normally do in an undergraduate lab setting. She used wet lab techniques and modeling software to study an enzyme from a fungal pathogen, and then designed a small molecule inhibitor to protect crops from that fungus.
During her 40-day stay at the program, Katz worked with university professors, met guest speakers, and took behind-the-scenes tours of local scientific and cultural sites.
