NORTH HEMPSTEAD — On Thursday afternoon, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena gave a 2022 State of the Town Address at a League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset luncheon.
On her 90th day in office, DeSena announced the results of what she called a thorough review of all the town's departments and operations.
"My goals since day one have been to streamline town government...and increase accountability to tax payers," she said.

DeSena wants more public access to town board meetings, especially for older residents without the ability to tune in online. Adding additional public meetings in each council district will allow more residents to meet council members face to face, she explained.
DeSena announced the creation of a Town of North Hempstead Substance Abuse Advisory Council. "Many lives can be saved," she said.

Existing programs like North Hempsead TV, the town animal shelter and a 311 information call center were all on track and offering residents vital resources, DeSena said.
In 2022 and going forward, the town will invest in infrastructure projects, an area she said has been underfunded in recent years. Road and repaving efforts will be ramped up in the township.
DeSena also called for reform of the town code regarding the building department permit process, to eliminate corruption and favoritism.
