17-Year-Old Fatally Shot By Stranger Near Crown Heights: NYPD

The 17-year-old was just outside his apartment building when a stranger shot him in the chest, police said.

CROWN HEIGHTS, NY — A 17-year-old was fatally shot by a stranger Wednesday night just steps away from his home, according to the NYPD.

Graig Bassett, 17, was shot in the chest near Saratoga Avenue and Prospect Place — down the street from his apartment building — about 4:55 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The shooter fled on Saratoga Avenue and Bassett was rushed to Interfaith Medical Center where he later died, police said.

Police released images of a suspect Thursday, whom they describe a man in his late teens or 20s wearing black Nike sneakers, black pants, a jacket, sweatshirt and a face mask.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect is asked to contact police.
