CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A Crown Heights block of mostly two-story brick homes soon could have a towering new neighbor.

Developers last week filed plans to build an eight-story, 37-unit apartment building at 1718 President St., near Utica Avenue.

It's where a two-story family home, largely indistinguishable from its neighbors, stood for years. But in 2018 developers Artist Construction filed a demolition permit.

Then on Feb. 28 the same owner — Anshel Friedman — filed a construction permit under a new business name, 1720 Ventures LLC, for the property.

The planned building will be 75 feet tall, contain 37 apartments, a cellar and a common area, the permit states. It also will have 11 enclosed parking spaces, according to the plans.
