5 (Free) Things: Make Music New York and Rolling Brownouts

Prospect Heights-area subway, alternate side and event information you won't want to miss.

 

1. You need to stay cool. Temperatures are predicted to reach 98 degrees today. If you don't have air conditioning, you can head to , or, hit the surf. Brighton Beach is only a 25-minute subway trip away. If you have elderly neighbors without air conditioning, . Meanwhile, in Prospect Heights and other Brooklyn neighborhoods and they're asking everyone to conserve electricity as best they can.

2. You need music! Today is , with live musicians performing along Washington, Classon, Underhill and Franklin avenues all day today. Quite a few shops will be giving away treats or having sales as well.

3. You need to get the kids out of the house. In the morning, hit the fountains at Underhill Playground. At 4 p.m., head to the  from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. See our  for more options. 

4. You need to know if your train is running ... There are no planned subway service changes affecting Prospect Heights today. However you should note that between midnight and 5 a.m. all week, Manhattan-bound Q trains will be running through the tunnel, so leave an extra 10 minutes or so, according to the MTA.

5. ... and if you have to move your car. Yup, you do. Alternate side parking rules are in effect and won't be suspended again be until Wednesday, July 4, according to the NYCDOT
