5 (Free) Things: Prospect Park Camping Lottery and Kids Gardening Workshop

Prospect Heights-area alternate side, subway and event information you won't want to miss.

 

1. You need to go camping ... in Prospect Park. Did you know you can camp right here in Brooklyn? Once a year the park offers 30 families the chance to spend one night camping in tents provided by the Urban Park Rangers, who also offer activities such as guided hikes. Click here to enter the camping in Prospect Park lottery, which is open for 24 hours beginning at midnight tonight. Camping takes place on August 25-26 from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Free.  

2. You need music, free music. Tonight at  there's the country music of  at 9:30 p.m. followed by the "whispery" tunes of singer-songwriter  at 10:30 p.m. At , you can hear the fun, energetic, off-the-wall rock of  at 9 p.m. Free.

3. You need to get the kids out of the house. Head to the  where young urban gardeners will explore a different nature theme each week and then create their own windowsill planting or nature craft. The event is canceled in rain or heat of 95°F or above. Meet in Discovery Garden. , 1000 Washington Avenue, 1:30 p.m. Free. 

4. You need to know if your train is running. Between midnight and 5 a.m. all week, Manhattan-bound No. 4 trains skip Bergen Street, Grand Army Plaza and Eastern Parkway and Manhattan-bound Q trains will run through the tunnel, according to the MTA, so leave extra time.

5. You need to know if you have to move your car. You do. Although alternate side is suspended Wednesday, August 15 for Feast of the Assumption, it doesn't help us here in Prospect Heights. The next non-Wednesday suspension is Mon/Tues, August 20-21 for Idul-Fitr), according to the NYCDOT.
