5 Things You Need to Know: How to Make Beer, Cheap Dates, Indie Folk and More

Prospect Heights-area information and events you won't want to miss.

1. You need to learn how to make beer. , the community-based learning event organization, is holding a beer making class at the , located at 837 Union St. Anthony Mohen will teach thirsty locals about equipment and ingredients, and also how to prepare beer for fermentation, and of course, how to brew at home. The class starts at 7:30 p.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m. 

2. You need to go on a cheap date. Bring a gal or guy out to  at , located at 702 Union St. For $5 apiece you’ll receive a night of dating tips (they will be cheap tips, of course), games, trivia, and six New York comedians. Tonight’s hosts are Tyler Fischer, from 'LMAO' Improv, and Sharron Paul, from College Humor. The laughs begin at 7:30 p.m.

3. You need to listen to indie folk. Bon Iver, formed by the American indie folk singer/songwriter Justin Vernon, will be playing a  The show is at the Prospect Park Bandshell, on Prospect Park W at 9th St. If you , bring a blanket, pack a picnic and sit in the grass. You might not be able to see the stage, but the music is loud enough. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

4. You need to get the kids out of the house. Come visit the  and explore art, science, and culture in a fun and wacky way at . Ages 5 and under are welcome. Wacky Tuesdays take place every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. 145 Brooklyn Avenue, free with $7.50 museum admission.

5. You need to know if your train is running, and if you have to move your car. There will be no service changes this week, according to the MTA. As for moving your car, alternate side is not suspended again until the Feast of the Assumption on Monday, August 15, according to the DOT
