'Affordable' Crown Heights Apartments Require $61K Salary
The 23 apartments up for grabs on St. Johns Place hit the affordable housing lottery this week, records show.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Nearly two dozen apartments have hit the affordable housing lottery in Crown Heights, but only for those making at least $61,000 a year, records show.
The 23 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units are up for grabs in a new building at 1120 St. Johns Place, according to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development listing.
The building's affordable apartment will go to those making at least 130 percent of the area median income, meaning a minimum salary of $61,715 is required for the studio spots. The one-bedroom units require a minimum $77,143 salary and the two-bedroom units will go to those making at least $87,429 or $90,858 combined income, records show.

Renters can expect to pay $1,800 per month for a studio spot, $2,250 per month for a one-bedroom and either $2,650 or $2,550 for a two-bedroom, according to the listing.
The St. Johns Place building includes a gym, shared laundry room, elevator, outdoor and rooftop terrace, children's playroom and security cameras.

It is one of several in Brooklyn currently on the affordable housing lottery.
Other buildings include a Lenox Road property, a massive development in Greenpoint, a Kent Avenue complex in Williamsburg, the Vital Brookdale complex in Brownsville and an East New York property known as Chestnut Commons.
