Brooklyn Affordable Apartments Available For As Little As $202
Two buildings have landed on city's the affordable housing lottery, one of which requires a salary as low as $9,875, records show.

BROOKLYN, NY — Hundreds of apartments in Central Brooklyn have hit the affordable housing lottery, some for those making as little as $9,000 a year, records show.
The apartments are found in two buildings that landed on the Department of Housing Preservation and Development lottery this week, including "Vital Brookdale" in Brownsville and a development brought on by the East New York rezoning known as Chestnut Commons.
The most affordable options are found in the Chestnut Commons complex, which is found on Dinsmore Place.

The building, which has 219 units up for grabs, is available to those who make between 20 and 80 percent of the area median income.
At the lowest income level, there are five studio apartments, 12 one-bedroom apartments, 20 two-bedrooms and 12 three-bedrooms available. Applicants should make at least $9,875 per year to apply for the studio units, which will cost $202 in rent per month, according to the listing.

At the highest income bracket in that building, applicants should make at least $42,923 per year to apply for a studio.

The Chestnut Commons building includes 24-hour security, a rooftop garden, a recreation room, a patio garden and will have a community center run by Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation. The center will include workforce development and education, urban agriculture, healthy eating and greenery and other resources, according to the listing.
At the second building, found on East 98th Street, there are 117 units up for grabs for those making between 50 and 80 percent of the area's median income.
For the lower income level, that means studio units will cost $959 per month and require at least a $35,829 salary to apply. The more expensive slate of units will go to those who make at least $61,406 per year and will cost $1,693 per month for the studio.
That building includes a second-floor terrace, rear-yard and entry-courtyard with a dog run, recreation, seating and dining areas, according to the listing. The complex also has a community room, game-room, library and resident co-working space and fitness room.
