Crown Heights Bar With Bullet Hole Decor Must Close, Protesters Say
"The pain that we had to go through: think about the pain," a resident was quoted as saying.
CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN - Local protesters are keeping pressure on 'gentrifying" bar Summerhill, saying the only appropriate resolution to the bar's controversial "bullet hole" decoris for the establishment to close, according to Gothamist.
The 637 Nostrand Ave. bar boasted of walls with bullet holes when it opened earlier this summer - outraging area residents who said the establishment's attempt to be cool was an insult to a neighborhood that has struggled with violence.
On Sunday, chanting protesters called for a boycott and urged owner Becca Brennan to get out of the neighborhood, Gothamist reported.

"The pain that we had to go through: think about the pain," Natherlene Bolden of the Crown Heights Tenants Union was quoted as saying. "Think about the mothers crying. And then talk to the long-term residents who have experienced some flying bullets. Talk to us, Becca."

It was the second protest since Summerhill opened, according to Gothamist.
The site said Brennan has removed bottles of rosé from above a bar since residents voiced outrage at her plans to sell the wine in paper bags. She has yet to plaster over the bar's pockmarked wall as protesters have demanded.
Brennan has previously apologized for the offensive marketing.
