Crown Heights Lidl One Of The Biggest Retail Deals In BK: Report

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — It's one of the biggest retail deals of 2022 in Brooklyn, and a big deal for Crown Heights.

Lidl, a discount grocery chain, ranked number three on a list compiled by The Real Deal of the biggest Brooklyn retail leases made in 2022.

Lidl inked the deal for the ground floor space at 1730 Bedford Ave. back in July, according to The Real Deal, securing over 30,000 square feet of much needed grocery options in the neighborhood.

The incoming Lidl will be part of a 57 unit apartment building currently under construction on the site of the old Firestone service station near Ebbets Field, according to New York YIMBY, and is owned by Jack Gold of Seventh Street Development Group.

Back when Ebbets Field was still home to the Brooklyn Dodgers, the area surrounding it was filled with single-story garages to accommodate their many fans, according to a Brownstoner article which traces the history of the 1930's era art-deco building.

The Firestone went out of business sometime after 2019 and was demolished this past year.

Another Lidl deal in Park Slope this past summer was also listed by The Real Deal as the fourth largest Brooklyn retail lease in 2022, at 25,000 square feet.
