Door Closing On 'Affordable' Apartments For Up To $150K Income

The housing lottery is offering Crown Heights apartments in new Empire Boulevard building for people who make at least $65,000 a year.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — It may be a leap year but the window to score an "affordable" apartment in a new Crown Heights complex closes on February's traditional last day.

Housing lottery applicants have until Feb. 28 to try their luck on 11 apartments offered at 800 Empire Boulevard, near Schenectady Avenue, a listing says.

The deadline isn't the only cutoff.

One bedrooms are open to people who make at least $65,143. The income cutoff for two bedrooms is $78,858.

That's below Crown Heights' median income of $81,875, according to Census data.

But the maximum income cutoffs for the Empire Boulevard apartments range from $97,110 for a one-person household to $149,890 for five people in a two bedroom.

The rents range from $1,900 for one bedrooms to $2,300 for two bedrooms, the listing states.
