Live In Prospect Heights For $856 Per Month

Here's what you need to make to qualify for this affordable housing lottery.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Looking to live in Prospect Heights on the cheap? An affordable housing lottery that just opened may let you do that.

Applications are open for the 15 affordable units in the new Brooklyn Zinc building at 317 St. Marks Avenue, between Underhill and Washington avenues. The sleek new building, with a zinc facade, includes a landscaped rooftop and other top-floor amenities.

The affordable units are available for families making 60 percent of the "Area Median Income" or AMI. Here's what that number looks like for the three different types of apartments available and number of people in the household:

Studio: $856 per month, three units available

  • one person: $29,349 to $40,080 per year

One bedroom: $958 per month, four units available

  • one person: $32,846 to $40,080 per year
  • two people: $32,846 to $45,840 per year

Two bedrooms: $1114 per month, eight units available

  • two people: $38,195 to $45,840 per year
  • three people: $38,195 to $51,540 per year
  • four people: $38,195 to $57,240 per year

About half of the units will be given preference for people who live within the boundaries of Community Board 8, which includes northern Crown Heights and Prospect Heights (full district map here). Applications are open through June 21, 2017. Anyone who wants to apply can do so through the city's housing portal.
