Victim Disarms Mugger on St. Charles Place

"Are you crazy?" would-be thief says before abandoning gun and running off.

A 35-year-old man turned the tables on a would-be thief by grabbing the gun from him during a mid-afternoon robbery attempt in Crown Heights.

The man was walking home from the Franklin Avenue train station at about 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 12, when he noticed someone following him. The thief came up to him and took out a silver handgun. But instead of giving up his wallet, the man grabbed the gun, according to a police report.

“Are you (expletive) crazy? Give me that gun back!” the thief said. But the man held fast and the thief ran off, according to the report.

The victim had no injuries from the incident, which took place on St. Charles Place, which is between St. Johns and Lincoln places and Franklin and Bedford avenues.

The thief is described as a black man weighing 160 pounds with brown eyes, medium dark skin and clear complexion. He was wearing blue jeans and a waist-length black jacket.

There have been a string of strong-arm muggings in the neighborhood since Thanksgiving.

In December, a  four muggings, but they've continued.

On Jan. 24 a 25-year-old woman was walking on St. Johns Place between Bedford and Franklin avenues when and stole her backpack and wallet. 

On Jan. 18, a man was bashed in the head  on Bergen Street.

In addition,  on Dec. 17 while walking home from the subway on Park Place between Vanderbilt and Washington avenues.
