Popular 'Wingate Concert' To Return To Brooklyn, Borough Prez Says

The concert, near the Crown Heights border, will be held next week with soca singer Patrice Roberts and reggae singer Gyptian.

BROOKLYN, NY — A "summer staple" is on its way back to Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso announced this week that he will reinstate the popular Wingate Concert, which was held each year in East Flatbush's Wingate Park before it was scaled back during the coronavirus crisis.

Bringing back the decades-long tradition was among the campaign promises Reynoso made before taking over as borough president at the start of the year.

“As the Chief-Promoter-of-Brooklyn, it’s an honor to bring back such a summer staple in Brooklyn, a community event I was asked about even before I took office,” Reynoso said. “I’m looking forward to partying with my Brooklyn neighbors not just for this year’s Wingate Concert, but for many years to come.”

The Wingate Concert was first organized in the late 1970s and has seen big-name headliners like Big Daddy Kane, Wyclef Jean and Aretha Franklin over the years.
