Prospect Heights Teacher Wins Award For Women Artists
Nancy Bowen, a sculptor who teaches at Purchase College, won the award alongside a woman commissioned to take a portrait of Michelle Obama.
PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A teacher from Prospect Heights was named a recipient of a prestigious award for artists over 40 years old.
Nancy Bowen, a sculptor who teaches at Purchase College, was one of 10 women to win the "Anonymous Was A Woman Award."
Another recipient, Amy Sherald, was chosen to paint Michelle Obama’s portrait for the National Portrait Gallery.

The winners each receive a $25,000 award "intended to provide them freedom to continue development of their creative vision," according to a release from Anonymous Was A Woman.
The name is a reference to a line in Virginia Woolf’s "A Room of One’s Own."
