Sunshine Co. Opens for Brunch, But Not For Cocktails
Owners of the new bar/restaurant are still waiting for a liquor license, but have decided to go ahead with daytime meals in the meantime.
Although still awaiting approval of their liquor license application, the owners of Sunshine Co. have decided to go ahead and open for brunch.
Following a soft launch Friday, the Washington Avenue bar/restaurant will be officially open everyday between Dec. 22 and January 1st except of Christmas and Boxing Day.

Alexander Hall and Sabrina Godfrey, owners of Vanderbilt Avenue's Milk Bar as well as Bluebird Coffee Shop on the Lower East Side, said they named their newest spot after the corner storefront's former tenant, a bodega called Sunshine Food Products, as well as the 1970s rock band "Sunshine Co." that has four men and one woman (Hall and Godfrey have three male partners in the venture).

The restaurant will offer "elevated American fare" and "a really well-cultivated cocktail menu," said Godfrey, adding that it will be "kind of like Milk Bar on steroids" or a "younger version of the Vanderbilt."
The drinks would be "what you would find in a very fancy cocktail bar, like The Clover Club, but in a more casual, friendly, non-pretentious way," Godfrey said.
The decor of the spacious restaurant is striking. Every aspect was carefully chosen, Hall confirmed, from the black and white tile floor, to the wrought iron to the modern light fixtures and the fabric on the banquette.
