Woman Steals Baby From Stroller In Crown Heights Jewish Center, Police Say

Some witnesses to the kidnapping helped stop the woman before she could escape.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A woman stole a baby out of a stroller inside of a Jewish center in Crown Heights on Wednesday while its mother used the bathroom, police said.

The 27-year-old mom was pushing her 11-month-old baby in a stroller inside of the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters on Eastern Parkway, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

The mother went to use the restroom and left the stroller behind around 8:40 a.m., according to police. That's when a 26-year-old woman walked up and snatched the baby, police said.

The mother came back and "caused alarm" when she realized her baby was missing, according to police. That forced bystanders into action, who quickly wrangled the baby-snatcher, according to police.

The mother and child were reunited unharmed, police said. The woman was arrested and charged with kidnapping, according to police.
