You Must Earn $72K To Get 'Affordable' Crown Heights Apartment
The NYC housing lottery seeks applicants who make at least $72,000 a year in a borough where a typical salary is just $56,000.

CROWN HEIGHTS — The average Brooklynite need not apply for six "affordable" apartments recently listed by the New York City housing lottery.
Units within 486 and 488 Lefferts Ave. in Crown Heights will only be available for applicants who make at least $72,720 a year, according to the housing lottery. And that's just for the lone studio apartment in the listing.
The listing's remaining five one-bedroom apartments are open only to applicants who make at least $75,806 a year.

Typical yearly income in Brooklyn is about $56,000, according to the U.S. Census. But the income requirements aren't completely out of line for relatively-affluent Crown Heights.
The Census shows median income in that neighborhood is $81,000.

That means a typical Crown Heights resident likely could afford about $2,000 a month in rent for the apartments. They will also likely fall under the maximum income cap of $97,110 to $124,930, depending on household size, required by this housing lottery listing.
Other Brooklyn residents likely will have to look for other listings if they want to win the housing lottery.
