Cyclist Hit, Killed By Truck In Long Island City: NYPD
A cyclist was killed after a car door opened in front of him and sent him flying into the road, where a truck hit him, police say.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS -- A cyclist in Long Island City was killed on Tuesday when a car door opened abruptly in front of him and sent him flying into the road, where a box truck hit him, police said.
The 45-year-old man was bicycling north on 21 Street near 46 Avenue just before 3 p.m. when someone in a parked car abruptly opened their door and caused him to slam into it, cops said.
The blow sent the man flying off his bicycle and into the roadway, where he was immediately mowed down by a white box truck, authorities said.

Cops found the man lying in the roadway with severe trauma to his head and body. He was rushed to Booth Memorial Hospital, where he died.
All of the drivers remained on scene after the crash, police said. The box truck driver was cuffed at the scene for not having a valid driver's license.

Police did not identify the cyclist and the investigation is ongoing.
