Police ID's Man Accused Of Setting NYC House On Fire That Killed Couple

QUEENS, NY — Police have identified the man who is accused of intentionally setting a Queens house on fire on Monday, resulting in the death of an elderly couple.

The NYPD have identified the suspect as Jamel McGriff, 42. Police released surveillance images of the man on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at a home on 254th Street near 87th Drive in Bellerose around 3:10 p.m. The fire was put under control in less than an hour, FDNY officials said.

According to NYPD Jessica Tisch, Frank Olton, 76, was found tied to a pole in his basement and had suffered multiple stab wounds. Maureen Olton, 77, was found severely burned on the first floor of the house.

According to reports, McGriff may have gotten into the home by asking the couple if he could charge his phone.
