QUEENS — A Bronx man was sentenced to prison for a 2021 shooting that left two MTA bus passengers injured in Jamaica, prosecutors said.
Melvin Adams, 45, will serve 20 years in prison for shooting two passengers aboard a bus after missing his intended target, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Friday.
The shooting unfolded Aug. 5, 2021 along Jamaica Avenue near 148th Street, prosecutors said.

The Bronx man fired several shots aimed at the back of a 25-year-old pedestrian who he didn’t know, but missed and instead shot an MTA Q8 bus around 9 a.m., Katz said.
A bullet pierced through the windshield of the bus and struck two men, 66 and 20 years of age, who were then treated at a nearby hospital, prosecutors said.

The 66-year-old was grazed by the bullet and was treated for a laceration to his shoulders, while the 20-year-old required orthopedic surgery to remove bullet fragments and a repair to his arm with a 10-inch metal plate and screws, the district attorney said.
Police arrested Adams minutes after the shooting, where they recovered the loaded .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun used in the shooting, Katz said.
