Silblings' Shooters Sentenced For Richmond Hill Slay: DA

QUEENS — Two men were sentenced to prison after shooting two brothers in Richmond Hill during a robbery in 2017, leaving one of the siblings dead, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Shakim Allen and Dreshaun Smith, both 29, were sentenced to 50 years to life in prison after the killing of 31-year-old Rocky Kalisaran, who was visiting from Guyana, on Jan. 2, 2017, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.

Allen and Smith were first fighting with Rocky’s younger brother, 24-year-old Sonny Kalisaran, about 3:30 a.m. and then his older brother tried to help him, Katz said.

Both brothers fled, but Allen and Smith caught up to them driving a Mercedes-Benz, and then Allen started wrestling with Rocky when the Guyana visitor’s gun discharged, prosecutors said.

Smith later shot both brothers, striking Sonny in the arm and back and Rocky in the chest, and then robbed Sonny’s cell phone and wallet before fleeing, the district attorney said.

The robbers went to Cohen Children’s Hospital in New Hyde Park to treat their wounds and then bought gasoline to set their Mercedes-Benz on fire, Katz said.

The brothers were taken to a nearby hospital after the robbery, where Rocky died due to his gunshot wounds, prosecutors said.
