Mom Arraigned, Accused Of Killing Baby Boy In NYC Home

If the mother is convicted, she faces 25 years to life in prison.

QUEENS, NY — A mother accused of killing her 15-month-old son in Queens was arraigned on charges on Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Nicole Boodhai, 28, is facing murder and endangering the welfare of a child charges.

On Dec. 29, Boodhai is accused of calling the child’s father and telling him that she had killed their child and intended to kill herself, prosecutors said. The father then called his mother, who lived on the first floor of the home on 157th Street, and asked for her to check on them.

The child’s grandmother along with another relative gain entry to a second floor bathroom, where they found Boodhai laying in the bathtub with blood around her and the toddler unresponsive in her arms.

Officers found the woman with slashes to her wrists. The child, identified as Charlie Ramraykha, was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

“This is an extraordinary tragedy. As alleged, the defendant intentionally caused the unnatural death of her own 15-month-old son. By all accounts, Charlie was a healthy and vivacious toddler. The investigation into the manner of the child’s death is ongoing, and we extend our sincere condolences to Charlie’s family as they mourn this unimaginable loss," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement.

If Boodhai is convicted, she faces 25 years to life in prison. Her next court appearance is set for Feb. 19.
