NY Contractor Fatally Struck Doing Work On Queens Parkway: Officials

QUEENS — A New York state contractor working on a major Queens highway was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning, officials confirmed.

The Transportation department contractor was fatally wounded on the Grand Central Parkway near Northern Boulevard about 10 a.m., according to the Transportation department and the FDNY.

"This tragic incident underscores the dangers our highway workers face as they work to improve our infrastructure," said Transportation department spokesperson Joe Morrissey .

The worker was inspecting a wall on the eastbound side of the highway when the "work zone intrusion" occurred, according to Morrissey and the NYPD.

Medics rushed the worker to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital where he later died, officials said.

His name had not been released as of 4 p.m.
