2 brothers had been changing the oil in their Ford Mustang when the jack fell over, trapping 1 beneath the car, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — An 18-year-old was trapped under a vehicle in a Riverhead parking lot Monday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, at about 3:37 p.m., a 911 call came in from a man saying that his brother was trapped under the vehicle outside BJ's Wholesale Club. Before help arrived, people in the parking lot were able to lift the vehicle and remove the trapped man, police said.
Two brothers, 18 and 21, of Riverhead, had been in the process of changing the oil on a 2020 Ford Mustang; they'd chosen the parking lot because it was level, police said.

The brothers had used a scissor-type jack to lift the vehicle with no jack stands, police said. The 18-year-old slid under the vehicle to remove the oil plug and, a short time later, the jack fell over, trapping him underneath the car, police said. He sustained facial injuries and was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and then transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for further treatment, police said.
Rivehead Police Department detectives are investigating; anyone with information is asked to call Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500.
