2 Dozen School Threats So Far Since Classes Began Recently: Suffolk PD

An active shooter drill will be held in Shoreham Wednesday to prepare for an emergency, police say.

SHOREHAM, NY — Suffolk County police are set to conduct an active shooter drill in Shoreham Wednesday.

According to police, the drill will be held at 1 p.m. at the former Briarcliff Avenue Elementary School on Tower Hill Road.

"In the department’s continuing effort to prepare for an active shooter or emergency, police officers from SCPD and associated agencies will take part in an eight-hour training that includes tactical and medical care instruction," police said.

Police said that, since the start of the new school year, SCPD officers have responded to about two dozen school threats.

"While patrol remains enhanced around schools, parents and students are reminded of the severity of these threats," police said. "The department also utilizes SHARE and the RAVE panic button that schools participate in."

SHARE is an emergency alert system, and the RAVE panic button is an app that allows people to summon help in emergency situations.
