Grill Fire Sets Suffolk House Ablaze On Memorial Day: Officials

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Memorial Day barbecue took a turn when a grill fire spread to Calverton home, the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department said.

"This afternoon, our department tackled a working structure fire in Calverton Hills," fire officials said. "A grill fire spread to the side of a residence, but our crews swiftly knocked it down, containing the blaze."

"Massive thanks to the Ridge and Wading River Fire Departments for their direct support at the scene, and to the Jamesport, Flanders, and Westhampton Beach Fire Departments for standing by at our headquarters and handling an automatic alarm," the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department said.
